Entry No 359 in Licence Register

CROWN TAVERN in 1886

On Friday 14th April 1905, Henry Hart said his rent was £10 and paid rates on the same amount, but the Bullards representative advised that rates had since been increased to £20. The Chairman then said that rates were to be paid at 30 per cent in excess of the rent, but in this case it was much more and if it was not clearly stated in the tenancy agreement he would hold them invalid.

Referred for Compensation 4th March 1913
& again 1st October 1913

On Tuesday 4th March 1913 an application was made for licence renewal. The house was described as a beerhouse, owned by Bullard & Sons.
Notice had been served in February of the intended refusal of licence renewal owing to redundancy.
When inspected two nine gallon casks were in use. The bar was a small place and poorly constructed. Behind it was a sitting-room. The bedrooms were in a bad state of repair and the premises were altogether in a bad state. In the two front rooms the ceilings were damp and in a very bad condition.
Within a radius of 300 feet there was one alehouse and within 600 feet, two alehouses and one beerhouse.
Bullards said that they did not object to this house being referred, but were anxious to have that of the ROYAL OAK renewed.
Referred to compensation.

Licence renewal  refused 11th July 1913.

Licence expired September 1913.
