Lord Kelvin

Previously the VICTORIA TAVERN.

LORD KELVIN from  (October) 1909

Market Day extension granted 1956.
(Lord Kelvin b1824 - d1907. One of the founders of modern physics became famous for his involvement in the laying of the first transatlantic cable in 1866)

Reopened Monday, 5th December 1983 following a five week refurbishment. Two bars had been "transformed" into one large bar with a circular mahogany bar, rather like a London Edwardian pub.
Cost of the works in the region of £55,000.

December 1983 - Selling Yorkshire Bitter and Bullards Mild, together with Fosters and Carlsberg lagers, cooled Guinness and Norwich bitter.
In the new year "the new Steward & Patteson real ale" would be available.
(Only available in Norwich in December 1983)

Tuesday 30th August 1983 - Landlord Barry Carter announced that he was leaving the house as soon as a replacement tenant could be found. His decision was due to the increase in the price of beer which Norwich Brewery would introduce from Monday 5th September 1983.
The price of Webster's and Yorkshire Bitter, Bullards Mild, Carlsberg, Fosters, and Holstein would all rise by 4p a pint. Norwich Mild would increase by 2 or 3 pence a pint.
