Listed 1836 as a Beerhouse (not named) with licence allowing beer to be consumed on the premises.

After spending £7 10s, all his money, on drinks alone, John Duffey, a sailor from Liverpool, was refused a loan of 5s from landlord William Raynor. Duffey was turned out of the house, and in revenge, he broke some windows.
Under the circumstances, on Tuesday 14th February, 1871, the same day as the offence, the Mayor dismissed the charges of being drunk and of damaging property.
<According to the National Archives Mr. Duffey spent £470 in 2017 terms>
