For sale by auction Monday 7th March 1808.
Part of the extensive estate of the Assignees of William Fisher, brewer of Chatteris. Listed in sale notification as the SWAN and included four tenements, bowling green and garden ground, altogether about five acres.

An auction took place here Thursday 23rd September 1819 - Mr. Smith given as the occupier.

Given as the WHITE SWAN 1865, 1875, 1883 & 1900

Transferred into Kings Lynn Borough
under the 1935 Norfolk Review Order.

Damaged by enemy action 7th October 1940 and again 6th May 1941.

 

The annual meeting of the South Lynn branch of the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers to place here February 1973. About 40 members attended.

 

The South Road Pigeon Flying Club was formed by eight fanciers in September 1965 and their headquarters were at the Lord Kelvin. As membership increased, new headquarters were offered by landlord Bill Tuck at the Swan, and were gratefully accepted.

Marking for the Thetford Open Pigeon Race (From Gainsborough) took place here 7th April 1977.

The fact that the house had closed was confirmed Friday, 7th September 1984. Ex-Landlord George Parkinson was awaiting eviction by the Norwich Brewery.


Demolition of the "Derelict Site" proposed 4th October 1993.

Permission granted Monday 16th May 1994 to convert into eight flats.
Planners were advised that should the listed building revert back to a public house, there would be many more vehicle movements at the Gaywood Clock junction.
A councillor welcomed welcomed a tidy up of the site. "It's a disgusting mess at present".
