On Good Friday, 31st March 1893, landlord James East attempted to open a patent stoppered bottle of soda water. The bottle burst and a large piece of glass went through his right hand, between thumb and first finger. Following the wound being sewn up, Mr. East was very weak from loss of blood, but his condition was said to be "satisfactory".
