On the night of Monday 17th November 1777, a horse in one of the Conisford carts, slipped down near the Grapes, St. Andrews. A man assisted the to get the horse up and the carter invited him into the Grapes for a thank you drink. Whilst in the house a "Sharper, or Sharpers" stole a truss of goods from the cart and escaped
