Said to have been a butchers shop before becoming an inn in the mid 1800's.

Named the BARON OF BEEF until 1874 according to the Licence Registers.

Adjoined the PUNCH HOUSE.

Percy Boltz died in 1968. Mrs. Boltz remarried in 1969 and continued at the house until 1974. (She died in May 1998 aged 90).

The total facade is of historic and architectural note.
Gas light fittings on ground floor.
Greek Doric shopfront.
Two bar rooms.
Corner bar has low ceiling supported by multi-angular wooden columns with Corinthian capitals.
Good modern staircase leads from corner bar to lounge bar area.
Two painted wooden busts of General Gordon and Sir Garnet Wolseley on brackets behind bar.
Etched glass mirror with bunches of grapes and baskets of flowers and old shop signs on walls, reproduction oil lamps, Britannia tables.
Once a town house. Became a pub with Mr. Nickel's curio shop attached, in 1842.
Part was listed as a butcher's shop in 1858.
Given name of Sir Garnet Wolseley in 1880's.
