Pigot names the house the BOWLING GREEN in 1839. (Robson gives it as the GLOBE) Offered To Let with Immediate Possession, March 1841. With Bowling Green, Garden, Stable and Coach-house. Extensive Sea View and numerous Bed-rooms admirably adapted for Respectable Families. On Monday 8th December 1856, it was heard that Charles Woods had entered the WILLIAM IV inn on the previous Saturday afternoon, in a state of intoxication. The landlady refused to serve him a half pint of rum and he caused such a disturbance and so abused and frightened her by his violent conduct, as to cause her to go into a fit of hysterics. Fined 50s and in default sentenced to 21 days imprisonment. Not found by name after 1858 |
