New venue announced 13th July 2016.
(J. D. Weatherspoon had acquired the site of a
former Motor Garage in August 2015. Some welcomed the development of the
empty property, but with nine public houses already in the area, many
saw it as a threat to established businesses.)
Site prepared for building by June 2017, but archaeological remains, a
crypt with two bodies, halts progress......
Opening said to be planned for October 2017....
Officially opened 13th March 2018.

Colin Tooke advises, November 2018:-
At
175 High Street is the WILLIAM ADAMS, a J D Wetherspoon pub, built at a cost of
£1.5m. The name is taken from a Gorleston man, William Adams,
who is credited with saving 140 lives while he was a bathing hut
attendant on Gorleston beach. Adams (1864-1913) was known
locally as the ‘Hero of Gorleston’ and was also a swimming
instructor, coaching some of the leading swimmers of the day. A
Methodist chapel stood on the site from 1810 until demolished in
1959. The site then became the garage of GT Motors.
