A Dinner was held at the CRYSTAL PALACE, late CAPTAIN HARMER, on Thursday, 1st December 1892.

John Hewson renovated the CAPTAIN HARMER and renamed it the CRYSTAL HOTEL and applied 23rd December 1892 for a music and singing licence which had not been previously held. Granted.
 
John Hewson is given at the CRYSTAL in 1894 but at the CAPTAIN HARMER in 1896.



Robert Stringer is described April 1842 as a Wine and Spirit Merchant, Ale and Porter Dealer, Dealer and Chapman, and declared Bankrupt. His Estate and Effects were to be assessed on 23rd and 24th May 1842.

On Wednesday 24th April 1842, an inquest into the death of a 16 year-old youth, assisting bricklayers, was held at the CAPTAIN HARMER INN.

In September 1845 it was confirmed that Robert Stringer, Innkeeper, had assigned his Estate and Effects to John Browne, Innkeeper and to Robert Hayward Beart, Wine and Spirit Merchant by Deed of Trust.

On Thursday, 27th November 1845, the well-established Liquor Shop, at the corner of Fuller's Hill, in the occupation of Robert Stringer, was to be Sold by Auction.

On Thursday, 26th February 1846, Robert Stringer, agreed to give up possession to Messrs. Morrison and Co, Spirit Merchants of London, having previously refused to surrender the license to them.

William Parker was "turned out" of the house on 21st August 1876 and a man named Fill was put inby the trustees. On 24th August, Parker returned to the house accompanied by a man named Foulsham, they then ejected Mr. Fill.
On Friday, 6th October 1876, Parker was ordered to immediately surrender the property and appurtenances, including several trading fixtures and fittings. Parker was also ordered to pay costs within 14 days.

The CAPTAIN HARMER, on the corner of Northgate Street, being on Sale by Auction, Wednesday, 5th August 1891. The occupant named as Clements.
