Previously the PRINCE OF WALES (Charlotte Street) (Charlotte Street was renamed Howard Street) William Albrow applied for a spirit licence on Monday 6th September 1869. Application refused. Spirit licence of the CATTLEMARKET INN transferred to here 27th August 1874. William Albrow is named at the Fleur De Lys in 1875 and in 1877 he is given as a wine & spirit merchant and refreshment bar, Howard street. Became the JOHN BARLEYCORN by 1879 with Josiah De Nant the tenant. Licence lost 1881 but restored following application May 1882 and confirmation August 1882, when house returned to the Fleur De Lys. The CROWN STORES by April 1899. |
