Owing to the proprietor retiring from business, the well-situated Beerhouse, standing near the Fish Wharf, on South Gates Road, was to be Sold by Auction, Thursday, 7th September 1876. Sold for £1,140. The body of 19 year old John Farman was discovered by William Halls, agricultural labourer, on the beach at Hopton on Good Friday morning (8th April 1887) at about 6:30 a.m. Landlord of the Fisherman's Arms, William Farman, identified the body and confirmed that his son had been missing since Christmas Eve and was believed to have accidentally fallen from the Pier at 10:30 that evening. A reward of £2 had been offered by Mr. Farman for anyone who should find the body. Advertised January 1891 - To be Let with Immediate Possession. Messrs. Cann & Co. ( Wymondham Brewery) applied to extend the premises at the Council meeting of Tuesday, 14th April 1891. On Tuesday 23rd August 1892 it was said that the Fisherman's Arms was undergoing repair and had no tenant. The former occupant was dead. The licence was not renewed. The licence having been temporarily endorsed whilst alterations were carried out, it was granted to Henry Turrell, Tuesday, 20th September 1892, the works completed and the house then in a proper condition. George Hales, Fisherman's Arms, South Denes Road, Gt. Yarmouth, formerly fishing boat owner, then beerhouse-keeper, declared bankrupt July 1894. Full licence granted 12th February 1960.
