On Monday 31st August 1868, the magistrates awarded a provisional licence, since the transfer recently made, for the licence of the JOLLY FARMERS to be transferred, could not come into operation before the 10th October. The house was thus enabled to open forthwith. On Thursday 20th July 1882, the Lease, for a term of Seven years, from 1st September 1882, was to be auctioned at the Star Hotel. Described as Fully Licensed Premises fitted with large Bars and every convenience for carrying on an extensive trade. Enjoying the exclusive right of supplying Exciseable liquors upon the Fishwharf and some distance from any other licensed premises. Then leased to Messrs. Steward & Patteson at £365 per year. The FISHWHARF STORES 1886 & 1888 Closed for the
duration of WWII according to a letter dated 23.04.1941. Became the DOLPHIN
