Originally the SAWYERS ARMS Later the GEORGE INN then the St. GEORGES TAVERN / WINE VAULTS. Although found as the George & Dragon in 1844 and 1845 with Elizabeth Morse as licensee, George Walker is named at the George IV in November 1845 when the Grand Metropolitan Lodge held their 32nd anniversary here. About 70 brethren sat down to a sumptuous repast, furnished in a style reflecting great credit on the host.
