The inquest into the death of landlord Benjamin Howes, age 70, was held on the premises Saturday 26th April 1856. It was heard that he had been despondent for several months regarding family matters and on the Friday had shut himself in his room. He was found dead later that day, on his bed, having cut his own throat with a razor. The verdict was `Temporary insanity.' |

They had entered her house at between one and two o'clock in the morning and were refused service since they were the worse for liquor. They abused her, struck her in the face and knocked her to the ground. Each were fined 10s and costs, or 14 days' hard labour. ~ Demolished. |
