The original site was at the corner of Regent Road and Aspley Road. Mr. R. Bransbury applied for a new licence Thursday 2nd September 1858 - Refused. James Heseltine ran the ROYAL HOTEL, Norwich until September 1859. Following that he had been engaged in hire of the NORFOLK HOTEL, Norwich, but no arrangement had been made. He became bankrupt in August 1860. By March 1861 he was keeper of the QUEEN'S HOTEL. Steward & Patteson applied Thursday 21st August 1884, for a provisional order for building a new hotel at a cost of £5,000. Completion was planned to be May 1885. Application granted.
