On Wednesday 27th June 1866, publican Mr. Bulley successfully
recovered twenty-three weeks rent, at 1s 6d a week, from Mr. Hogg, a
twine spinner and mussel dredger. The rent was for a small warehouse.
The parties were censured for not having a written contract, but it was
confirmed that Hogg could be instantly dismissed from the premises.
It was said before the magistrates that the real reason for the case was
that Bully could get £10 a year from another tenant, rather than the £4
he was then getting. |
