Mr. Vincent of the STAR TAVERN and Coffee House died August 1783 - Location given as `On the Quay'. Mrs Vincent (widow) announced her arrival at the house, on the corner of New Broad Row, 16th March 1786. She had previously been at a house on the Quay - Believed to have been the VINCENT'S TAVERN. She hoped for the continuance of the kind attention shewn by her former customers and assured them that every Thing would be done to merit the same, and would be gratefully acknowledged. The Old Billiard Table being removed to the new House and set up in a most commodious Room for the purpose. <Strangely Mrs Vincent was apparently still the owner of the Vincent's Tavern in July 1787 since it was offered for sale owing to her ill health and her desire to retire from the business. The Billiard Table was included in the sale........ So did she actually arrive at the Star Tavern at all?> The cargo of the captured ship, the Junge Heinrick, was to be sold at the STAR TAVERN Tuesday 19th August 1806. The items for sale consisted of 980 quarters of linseed and about 25 cwt of bed feathers. The same day, the cargo of the captured Freundschaft, consisting of about 850 quarters of Linseed and about 80 quarters of Hempseed. |
