On Saturday 3rd April 1852, Mr. Curtis of the JOLLY SAILORS, retired to rest
for a while, complaining of more than usual symptoms of ill health. He soon
expired. He had been ailing for some time.
On Thursday 6th October 1906, a signboard, said to
have been painted by Old Crome (John Crome 1768 - 1821) was sold at
auction (in Norwich) and attracted much interest. Bidding started at 5
guineas and advanced to 12 guineas when won by a Mr. George Boston. The
sign of the Jolly Sailors, Yarmouth, depicted a mariner wearing a short
pea jacket and red cap. Standing on a shore, with legs wide apart. One
hand in his pocket and the other pointing to the sea.
