Given as the DUKE OF CUMBERLAND in 1749, 1822 & 1875 but as the DUKE WILLIAM in 1824, 1850, and the 1851, 1861 & 1871 census returns. Henry Read, Licensed Victualler, Cow-keeper, Carter, and General Dealer, an Insolvent Debtor, was to be examined 11th May 1853. Seems to have officially become the DUKE WILLIAM by 1850. Referred for Compensation 10th March 1913. Compensation payment of £118 5s was confirmed for owners Colchester Brewery and for share with their tenant, Mr. Smith, at a meeting of the Norfolk Compensation Authority during the week of 20th December 1913. ( The claim had been for £171 12s 6d. ) Licence extinct 13th January 1914. Demolished. |
