Mentioned 1764 - Then owned by Maxey Allen. William Savage was accused of selling beer after twelve o'clock on the night of Saturday 24th May 1862. The previous Sunday a police constable claimed to have found three men and one woman in the house at one o'clock in the morning. Mr. Savage claimed that any beer found on the table had been served before midnight. The case was dismissed. Landlady Hannah Allington was "prodded" in the eye by Jessie Prior of Bell Yard, Norfolk Street, on 24th July 1867. For the assault, considered not to be serious, on Monday 29th July 1867, Prior paid costs of 11s 6d. Monday 6th February 1905 - Licence renewal objected to by Chief Constable Payne on the grounds of being unnecessary. Referred for Compensation 06.02.1906 |
