On Friday 13th May 1904, surgeon Frederick
Little claimed £4 7s 6d from for surgical attendance
for a fractured leg, in June 1901. There was also a claim for attendance
to Mrs. Cook in 1895 and 1896. Cook "had not worked since the incident",
but had offered to pay 10s a month. This had been rejected. Mr. Cook was
ordered to pay £3 3s and costs. |

Thomas Inglis was invalided out of
the Army in May 1915 suffering from a diseased heart and
ague. He had taken the Swan in November 1915.
On Friday 26th May 1916, at 12:25 noon, a shot was heard in
the bar parlour. Inglis had shot himself in the head with a
German rifle that he had taken from a member of the German
Army, whom he had shot, whilst serving in the Cameroons.
"Suicide whilst in an unsound state of mind" was returned at
the inquest. |

Police Superintendent Francis Southgate reported to the
South Erpingham Magistrates that beerhouse keeper Walter Gordon Hawes did
on the 30th April 1918 `sell or supply intoxicating liquor to be
consumed on the premises during prohibited hours'.
Roger Sayer (dealer) and George Dennis (farmer) were accused of
consuming intoxicating liquor during prohibited hours.
(Mr Dennis and Mr Sayer were fined 10/- each on 21st May 1918)
Full licence granted 1958 following transfer from
the HEMSWORTH
ARMS, Scoulton.
It seems that the licence of the STAR at Marsham had also
been surrendered the previous year in consideration of a full licence for this house.
Licence not renewed 1968.
Although a listed building, the property was demolished in 1969.
