 | November 1986 On Saturday 13th May 1911, a severe thunderstorm broke
out in the area. Amongst the damaged properties, the Horse Shoes suffered a
lightening strike at about two o'clock. The chimney stack on the western end
was split from top to bottom, several tiles were lifted and about three rows
of tiles smashed. The gable end boarding was splintered and the concrete
rainwater drainage sink was broken. Inside, one of the bedrooms was wrecked
and plaster above the fireplace was torn from the wall and embedded on the
opposite wall. The strike filled the house with smoke which caused concern,
but there was no fire. Lath and plaster were wrenched from walls. In the
kitchen the grate was forced forward, tessellated tiles were broken, a chair
was hurled a yard and the floor was covered in soot and water. The
lightening bolt then escaped through the kitchen door. Lot No 32 in sale of the Estate of Robert Sheriffe 2nd September 1840 Purchased by Mr Blomfield for £500
