William Lingwood recorded as owner in 1867.
William Lansdell of the Farrier's Arms, Licensed
Victualler and Licensed to Sell Beer, Porter, Tobacco and Cigars, and
Licensed to Sell Spirituous Liquors by Retail: and also carrying on the
Trade or Business of Coal Merchant was adjudged Bankrupt on 30th
September 1867. An Order of Discharge was to be delivered to him, should
there be no Appeal, within 30 Days of 2nd December 1867.
On Tuesday 22nd October 1867 the magistrates refused to transfer the
licence from Mr. Stevenson to John Bassingthwaite since the
minute book proved that he had been convicted more than once of offences
against the excise laws.
In July 1868, the new licensee, James Bassingthwaite was described as a
pensioner who had served in the Crimea Campaign, in which he had been
"wounded in a part of his body which did not speak much of his valour".
