Building dates from the 18th century.
Appears on Bryant's 1826 map.
On Tuesday 20th November 1906 it was heard that George
Dixon had incurred a penalty of £100 for having, on 21st August,
received two gallons of spirits and not entering receipt in his stock
books as required by the Spirits Act 1880. Spirits received from the
house owners, Messrs. Morgan & Co. had been entered, but since the
spirits in question had not been purchased from them, this was the
reason they had not been entered. The Chairman said that Dixon knew
perfectly well that he should have made the entry and imposed a fine and
costs of £2 18s 6d.
The adjoining playing field was used for greyhound racing during the
1930's. The events were organised by landlord George James and continued
to the outbreak of WWII
Morgans sales in 1960 were 74 barrels of beer and 24 (gallons of) Spirits.
Became a private house after closure.
