William Fodder advised 22nd November 1783 that he had taken the Ostrich,
near Holkham Hall, which he has fitted up in a Particular Manner for the
Accommodation of Ladies and Gentlemen who shall take the Norfolk
Tour............
..... Laid in a Stock of Wines and Spirituous Liquors of that Quality
which he hopes, together with his Attention to Oblige, will give
Satisfaction to all those who will please to favour him with their
Company, whose Favours will be very gratefully acknowledged.
It was reported 29th February 1832 that journeyman
miller John Morley had entered the public house and had two small
glasses of gin and water. Having been drinking elsewhere he asked if he
could rest until nine o'clock in the evening when he was to be roused.
He awoke before that time and in the darkness fell from the top to the
bottom of the stairs. He died a week later on Sunday 26th February.

On 22nd July 1892, the Ostrich was sold to the leaseholders, Bullard &
Sons for £300.
