The Norfolk Chronicle of 10th February 1906 reported that the licence was referred for a month
owing to the bad repair of the premises.
On Monday 5th March 1906 the magistrates were informed that a notice
of objection to licence renewal had been served on the tenant, Henry
Miller. The house was in a dilapidated state, the roof was bad, and
in several places it was sunk in; the walls were bulged and cracked.
The drainage was bad. Miss Tipple, the owner had advised that she
was willing to spend £20 or £30 on repairs.
The licence was referred to the Quarter Sessions.
It was reported 7th April 1906 that the magistrates had previously
refused to renew the licence of Henry William Miller and had refused
to apply the provisions of the Licensing Act, 1904, by putting the
property on the the list of houses entitled to compensation under
that Act.
At the Norfolk Quarter Sessions, Licensing Appeals, held Wednesday
4th April 1906, Mr. Miller (licensee), Miss. Esther Tipple (owner)
and Mr. Frederick John Carpenter (brewer?) appealed against the
decision of the magistrates. The Chairman however found against the
appeal.
