The yard of the WHITE HORSE - an image dated 1907

1907

Documents exist dating the house back to 1728.

Appears on Bryant's 1826 map.

William Oliver advised his Friends and the Public, 3rd May 1849, that he had taken Possession of the Inn and would be supplying Superior Ales, London Porter, Wines and Spirits.
A Bowling Green was being prepared and would open very soon.

11th June 1891 - Proprietor Harry Gandar advised Secretaries of Fishing, Cycling and other Clubs that the Hotel had undergone complete renovation and was situated in one of the most picturesque spots of the Eastern Counties, adjoining the River, which afforded excellent fishing and boating. It also had one of the prettiest Bowling Greens.

The Household Furniture, a 14 ft Dingy and a useful Chestnut Pony, the property of Mr. Hulbert were to be Sold, Monday 8th October 1900 since he was moving.

Mr. L. Platten offered a Donkey (good goer) and a nearly new Set of Harness and a Varnished Car, for sale, October 1902.

Part of the bowling green was washed away in 1912 floods.

Originally in Great Hautbois Parish
