Given in directories as at Heywood Road, but shown on the 1884 OS map as at The Heywood,
an extension of the Heywood Road.
When the licence was transferred from John Smith to his son-in-law, on
Wednesday 10th December 1890, the new tenant was warned that there had been
several complaints of bad and filthy language being used in the house and he
was urged to be cautious in conducting the house.
House is not shown in the Licence Register in 1958 or
after.
It was reported 26th February 1999 that the house had
been sold in 1869. "Then in occupation of George Rout, the house was
purchased by ** Bullard & Sons. In 1959, the Rout family had
bought the freehold. Now vacant, the house is for sale for £140,000".
** The reference to Bullards is possibly
because the house changed hands from Can & Clarke, to Morgans and then
to Bullards?
