Part of Lot No. 1 in the sale, Wednesday 28th September 1841, by order of the Executors of Mr. John Whistler, deceased. Part of three Brick and Stone, Tiled Messuages or Dwelling Houses, having a frontage of 165 feet on the road to Stanhoe. With a large Water Cistern, with three floors; walled-in Garden and small gardens in front, Yard, two-stalled Stable and three Out-houses, in several occupations of William Thompson, general shopkeeper; James Remnant, veterinary surgeon; and James Southerland, beer-shop keeper. Monday 9th February 1880 - Alfred Dolman charged by his wife Ann Dolman, with an assault and of threatening her on 1st February. On that date it as said he had struck her in the bedroom and knocked her down on the bed. He claimed she had first struck him over his eye. Case adjourned to enable the parties to make arrangements for separation. On Monday 30th August 1880, Major Hare, one of the magistrates, said he was disappointed in Dolman, a former servant of his, who was quite unfit to run an inn. The representative for Messrs. Bullard & Co. said a new tenant would be found within a month. The licence was renewed to Mr. Dolman on condition that he surrender it to the new tenant at the forthcoming transfer day. The Committee allowed £1,000 compensation which was agreed. Licensee reported as Harrison. House closed 25th January 1921 |
