Guy Hagon testified 23rd August 1881 that Henry
Jones stole ½ lb of tobacco from the premises on 22nd August 1881.
Jones had entered the bar at about half past ten.
` I saw him lift the lid and put it back again - I asked him what he was about and
he replied ``Nothing'' '.
On Monday 29th August 1881 the charge of theft was proved; but as
the prisoner had been locked up since the last hearing, he was fined
1s and ordered to pay the value of tobacco (1s 6d) and 21s 11d
costs.
