Robert Blyth, Blacksmith and Wheelwright, assigned his Estate and Effects to
Mr. Steward, Solicitor as recorded 10th April 1831.
Probably the Public House, with Blacksmith's and Wheelwright's Shop
to be Sold By Auction Monday 9th May 1831.
With a newly sunk well.
Location given as adjoining the road to Stratton. <Stratton
Strawless>
Robert Blyth in occupation.
When 52 villagers turned up, December 1970, to receive a handout from the
Christmas Club, the house was found to be in darkness and the more than
£1,500 club money had disappeared.
It was reported 23rd December that brewers Watney Mann had replaced the
money so that the villagers would not be disappointed over Christmas. The
Mariner's Arms was not expected to be open over the Christmas period.
The police were to investigate the disappearance of the money.
