On Monday 25th August 1873, James Southgate was charged by
Police-constable Failes of knowingly permitting drunkenness on 6th July. As
he was an invalid, he was represented by his wife and it was heard that he
had run the house for nineteen years without complaint.
Case dismissed with a caution.
<If the reported nineteen years is correct, then
Mr. Southgate was at the house from 1854 and that seems unlikely since
Robert Everett is named here in 1854 and 1856, unless he was an employee>
Morgans sales for 1960 were 43 barrels of beer and 5 Spirits.
40 barrels of beer sold in year prior to closure. |
