On Monday, 19th February 1866, brewer William Youngs claimed £15
damages from tanner John Gower Saunders "for taking and depriving
(Youngs) of the possession, trade and custom of the Tanners Arms".
Mr. Youngs had hired the house from Mr. Saunders and sub-let it to a
man named Day, and subsequently to William Bullock, who had paid
rent directly to Mr. Saunders.
Youngs had supplied the house up to June 1865 and Bullock had been
permitted to source beer from other providers since Youngs "was an
intermittent brewer".
The case was dismissed without Mr. Saunders being asked to reply.
