Richard Bell is described as a thatcher in a mortgage document
`All newly built messuage used as a Beer House called the
Fox & Hounds and a plot of land containing one acre.....'
It was reported March 1914 that the licensee, Ellen Eaglen was recently
widowed and had two children aged 2½ and 16 months.
She was doing a steady trade at the house and the average trade over the
previous three years was 50¼ barrels, the last year being 10 per cent over
the previous. Should the house be closed she would have to "go out to
service".
It was announced 26th December 1914 that following a claim of £396 14s 8d
from the Compensation Authorities, the sum of £380 had been approved.
It was confirmed Wednesday, 3rd February 1915 that the house had closed, the
Compensation having been paid on 4th January 1915.
