Appears to be the same house given as the BEAR in 1834 and in the 1841 census. (Was a lion rampant on the sign mistaken for a bear?) Advertised To Let, 8th March 1925, with Early Possession. Referred for compensation, Monday, 1st March 1926, but licence renewed until the meeting of the Licensing Committee. Licence refused at the meeting Wednesday, 14th July 1926 with amount of compensation to be fixed at the supplemental meeting of 20th October 1926. Valued at £350 2s 6d (Unlicensed £96) 20th October 1926. Owners Steward Patteson submitted a compensation claim of £484 2s 6d. The Committee approved the claim. Closed by Compensation 1926 and sold 1927 For sale, Wednesday, 6th April 1927 (unlicensed).
