According to a booklet, published privately in 1978 ‘A History of Hellesdon Village’ by Kenneth Hipper.
...........
the Norwich – Fakenham Turnpike Road, which dated from 1823, had an arm
running from Hellesdon Bridge to Drayton that included the Low
Road.......................
“Bell Row was a row of cottages which stood just north of the church on the eastern side of Low Road. These cottages were demolished and bungalows now stand on the site. It is possible that the cottages were part of the Bell public house which once stood in the village.”
This would place a
public house in the hamlet of Hellesdon, immediately north of St. Mary's
church. Apparently a substantial enterprise including a bowling green. No
reference has been found in directories from 1830 onwards. No mention found
in census returns from 1841. |
