It was said that landlord John Spraggins was "mad drunk" on 13th June 1894 and was abusing all his customers. He stripped off his coat and waistcoat, threatening to punch a customer's head. All charges relating to the event were dismissed on Monday 2nd July 1894. It transpired that Spraggins had been married that day "which possibly accounted for his exhilaration".
