and when licensee Arthur Harrison was accused of suffering gaming
February 1912.
Police Sergeant Wiseman gave evidence that a raffle had been held. Two
chickens, each valued at 2s 6d were raffled with dice at 3d a play. A second
raffle for a bottle of 1s port, a bottle of ginger wine and twelve
cigars was held with each player paying 2d. Mr. Harrison said he did not
know he was doing wrong and stopped the event as soon as informed. Being new
to the business the defendant was given the leniency of the Bench and the
case was dismissed upon the defendant paying 5s costs.
Mr. Harrison then asked for renewal of his licence, which was granted.
