Charles Garrod applied for an alehouse licence 26th August 1868 - Refused. Three soldiers on furlough, Robert Thompson, Charles Chapman and James Powl, were charged February 1876 of being drunk and disorderly. However it was heard that licensee Charles Garrod had called them `slinks' and worse with a strong adjective. In consequence, the Bench decided they had been provoked and charges were dismissed with advice and a caution. ~ On 10th October 1883, the Timber supplies, including planks ,hurdles, tools, saws, carts, wheels, cast and wrought iron, plus the Household Furniture and Effects were to be Auctioned since Mr. William Jolly was leaving Northwold. However it seems he did not stay away for long since he is at the Red Lion from at least 1888. In September 1892 William Jolly advertised that he had about 1,000 feet of Ash Plank and about 400 Fellons and a quantity of Ash Slabs and Halflings, all to be sold since he was giving up the Timber trade. In October 1896 it was advertised that Mr. Jolly was leaving the Inn and a quantity of Oak and Ash Planks, Poplar and other Boards, new Shepherd's House, Wheelbarrow and Wheels, plus Household Furniture were to be Sold. ~ Closure recommended at First Joint Committee Meeting of Bullards and S&P 29th May 1962. Sales given as 64 barrels per year. Tenant said to be 43 years old and to have been a tenant for 2 years. |
