No mention prior to 1879 although the Harling Road
Railway Station is found from at least 1869. William Elliott, senior, is
listed at Harling Road Station in 1877. His occupation given as
maltster, brewer and coal merchant.
In a notice dated 2nd August 1879, Henry Stammers, residing at the
Dolphin Beerhouse, advised the he would apply 26th August 1879, for a
"Licence to hold any of the Excise Licenses that may be held by a
Publican for the sale of Intoxicating Liquors, to be consumed either on
or off the premises, now consisting of two dwelling houses".
Another notice, would also be presented 26th August 1879 seeking removal
of the Licence then in force allowing Sale by Retail, Beer, to be
consumed on of off certain premises situate in Roudham and known by the
sign of the Dolphin.
On 26th August 1879, a Spirit Licence was granted to Henry Stammers and
the removal of the :Licence to a house nearer the station gates, also
granted. The owners informing the magistrates that they were about to
make substantial alterations to these premises and that stable
accommodation would be provided to meet a want long felt by the public,
"who are in the habit of using Harling Road Station".
Recorded as a beer retail outlet to at least 1888.
By 1890 the name DOLPHIN
appears as is usual to premises holding a full licence.
