On the night of Sunday 16th March 1913 the body of 56 year old Benjamin English, licensed victualler and rate collector, was retrieved from a tub of water. Mr. English had recently suffered from influenza and had been unable to attend his business. At the inquest on Monday the jury returned a verdict of "Accidentally drowned through having fallen into a tub of water whilst suffering from giddiness". He left a widow and nine children. On 27th August 1913 his wife Margaret was granted probate to Effects of £85 6s 1d. |
Given as at Saxlingham Thorpe until 25th March 1883 Described February 1906 as a beerhouse with very good and excellent accommodation. Sales in final year of trading were :- 40⅜ barrels. Licence retained by S&P It was reported 15th February 1963 that the house was closed and the licence held by a representative of the Brewery. |
