Following a road accident, the funeral of Mr. G. Cobb (of Shelfanger) was carried out on Friday 5th October 1851. Amongst the mourners were six members of the Rivett family including Miss. R. Rivett. Mr. Victor Peacock also attended. There were many floral tributes from the South Lopham Crown "Good-will Club". Miss Rose Rivett, second daughter of Mr. & Mrs. E. Rivett married Victor Peacock Saturday 21st June 1952. She wore a green outfit with white trimmings. |
On Wednesday 6th January 1841, Mrs. Carlton of South Lopham Rose & Crown, beerhouse, was witness at the trial of John Doe, aged 24, who was accused of stealing a purse containing 22s. Found guilty, John Doe was sentenced to Ten Years' transportation. Beerhouse to at least 1872 Full licence apparently by 1875. Farmer William Eacock, of South Lopham was charged with refusing to leave the house on 19th November 1880, when requested by licensee James Bedwell and was further charged with assaulting Laura Bedwell, the wife of James Bedwell. Mr. Eacock was fined a total of £5 3s 6d on Tuesday 30th November 1880. Mr. Ernest Rivett, of Darby's Farm, who was giving up farming, offered All the Live and Dead Farming Stock For Sale by Auction, Wednesday, 2nd November 1932. A Mr. Ernest Rivett of South Lopham was working as a lorry driver in January 1943, hauling sugar beet. Ernest Rivett also offered Tractor Ploughing and Cultivating in his November 1946 advertisement.
