On Monday 28th June 1869 labourer John Clarke, of Banham, was charged with stealing, two days previously, two shirts, stockings and other items from Thomas Allum Witchford at the Carpenters Arms beer-house. He was fined 6d with 10s costs and 6d damages, or in default seven days' imprisonment.
At this time it appears that Mr. Witchford was lodging at the house since is name does not appear in any directory as being a licensee.

In the early hours of Tuesday 23rd November 1937 a fire broke out totally destroying the building and part of the house next door. Mrs Hildreth, her five children and their dog all escaped. Mr. Hildreth was employed on night duty, as a stoker at Feltwell Aerodrome and returned home at about 1 o'clock to find his home in flames. The roof collapsed about 1:30. A Merryweather engine pumped water from the Warren Pit in Upgate Street, about a quarter of a mile away. It was said to have been one of the oldest houses in the village, "built several hundred years ago, currently owned by Messrs. Morgans."
All Tuesday, several workers constructed a wooden hut in the back yard, in order to allow the usual licensed trade to continue. Damage was estimated at £800 and was covered by insurance.

Full licence granted upon removal from the BLACKSMITHS ARMS, Southery 10th May 1938

Became the QUEEN OF HEARTS from 1948.

Note: In 1979, a leaded glass window, bearing the words "Carpenter's Arms", was discovered in a hedge at Southery. Repaired and installed in a new frame, it was sold to the Carpenters Arms, Denver, where it was put on display just before Christmas 1979.
