On Monday 30th August 1875 the
Petty Sessions were held before the Marquis Townshend and
three others. The Marquis said that he did not wish to excise any undue
influence from the Bench and would not vote on the application by George
Thomas Neale to open a public-house in the village. However he did say
that he had decided to close all public houses (his property) in the
neighbourhood, since he thought the population much better served by not
having the temptation put before them. The application by Mr. Neale was refused on the grounds of not being required. |
