A sale by auction at the CROWN, Stoke Ferry on Monday 7th July 1794 was of six separate properties. All were in Stoke Ferry except lot VI, a tenement in Whittington, occupied by widow Bennett. Lot III was `All that capital new-built and well situated Messuage or Tenement, with yard belonging, at the annual rent of £22 6s, now occupied by Mr. John Hewson, and others, and was formerly a public-house, known by the sign of the WOUNDED HEART.'
