ferryman's cottage.
A brewery operated here in the 1800's.
Location pre 1938 given as Herringfleet Parish, Suffolk.
Current County boundary shows the house to be in Norfolk.
Once known as Six Mile House.
Possibly same house as recorded 1789 in Reedham Licence Register as
SEVEN MILE HOUSE. (Although
today, it is approximately 9 miles by river between Reedham and St. Olaves)
The Household Furniture, Effects and Stock in Trade of James Buck,
Cooper and Innkeeper, was Sold by Auction, Thursday, 6th October 1836.
He had quit Possession of the Bell at Michaelmas.
Robert Girling applied for a 7 day licence at the Lowestoft Police-court on
Monday 25th August 1890. The house belonged to Colonel H. M. Leathes and
held a 6 day licence, the next house being some quarter of a mile distant.
Application granted.
