Mary Powley, widow, announced 29th April 1809 that following the death of her husband, William, she would be carrying on business as usual. Orders for Bricks and Lime would be attended to and charged at the very lowest price. In a notice dated 14th April 1838 it was recorded that W. C. Hubbard, innkeeper, had assigned his Estate and Effects to Trustees for the benefit of his Creditors. On Wednesday 25th April 1838, the Household Furniture and other Effects of William Creed Hubbard were to be Sold by Auction at the Angel. Property sold by S&P in 1898 It was reported in 1955 that George Dickerson ran the house for a total of 46 years, but the date of his starting, or leaving, not mentioned. His son, also George, ran the RED LION for many years.
Included a well - 160ft deep.
It is reputed that one customer accidentally found his way to the bottom and was successfully rescued to tell the tale. |
