Six year old Sarah Jane Coe, daughter of the landlord, got her fingers entangled in a patent mangle, kept by her mother, Tuesday 4th October 1870. The surgeon, Mr. R. B. Marriott was called and it was necessary to amputate a finger on the right hand. The child bore her sufferings with remarkable fortitude.
