June 1998 At the Petty Sessions Monday 31st August 1868, George Beavor was found guilty of selling beer after ten o'clock p.m. Only recently entered into the trade, he believed the Excise had informed him that his licence allowed him to sell beer through the night if he thought proper. Chairman Sir W. Jones, Bart. and the other magistrates, thought otherwise. Fine of 1s and 10s 6d costs. On Monday 28th February 1870 William Hurn was charged with illegally obtaining a certificate or licence for the sale of beer from the Justices of the Peace. The recent Act had made the house unsuitable to be licensed premises, but it was heard that the property was undergoing alterations, which when completed, would raise the rating figures required. The Overseers of the parish confirmed that licensing conditions would be met upon completion of the works and gave Hurn the most excellent references. The Bench dismissed the case. Application for a Spirit Licence made Monday 31st August 1874. Although the OLD BUCK held a spirit licence and it was argued that the total population of under 500 persons did not merit a second spirit licence, the application was granted........... But decision overruled by magistrates in Norwich. Application for Spirit Licence re-applied for Monday 30th August 1875 - Granted. Morgans sales for 1960 were:- Barrels of beer 122 Spirits 31 (gallons) Landlady Melanie McClaren informed that the house was burgled overnight on Thursday 13th November 1986. £200 in cash was taken.
